The Island

An island there is, undiscovered by most
Where red yellow crabs burrow under the mangroves
Pathways walk up and down the old hill
And tiled homes hold the ancient Portuguese will
The tributaries cut new avenues through the thick thrush
And a jungle owlet winks through a bottle brush
Shallow swamps with water lillies offer residence to birds
Though mostly it’s the ethos difficult to explain in words
The island says to me slow down little girl
There are wonders in the world that wud dissapear in a swirl
For those of us too blinded by the light
The glow of triumph that elusively takes flight
So calm the pace of your mind
And I promise you a different world that you’ll find
See each face, those who’ve lived here for years
Their guise has no age…no wrinkle mars them here…
